A gift for the listeners who have been with us since the very beginning... and those of you who have just arrived.
“Gold” is a fan-favorite and our most-requested song. It was originally released on The Promise is Hope’s debut record, “Where We’ve Been & Where We’re Going” (2015) and was re-recorded in August 2021 in Hardwick, MA, where we were tracking our upcoming full-length record.
The 2021 version of “Gold” is a more accurate representation of who we are as musicians today. You’ll hear the intimate acoustic guitars you’re so used to hearing at our performances, straying far from the rock treatment this song was given in 2014.
lyrics
Under a sea of burning balls of fire,
I have my questions.
Am I still asleep? Could this be a dream?
Can anyone here grasp all this vastness?
When will we wake? When will the thread,
Holding up the Universe, break?
I’m swimming through a sea of stars,
And I’m drowning in Your endless heart.
Hold me close, O God so far away,
I need your secrets.
And I hear You say, from a million miles away,
“Oh, Love. Love without limit.”
And my soul it sings the choir of the King,
“Look to the light, He is turning us into beautiful things.”
When will we know which way to go?
The path is dark, but the journey is gold.
[Instrumental]
Ooh...
When will we know which way to go?
The path is dark, but the journey is gold.

Ash & Eric have never shied away from life’s hard edges. Hailing from the gritty heart of the Industrial Revolution --
Worcester, Massachusetts -- the two find consolation in discovering the beauty of being artists in the most stubbornly independent city in the north east. Their musings reflect the hope and pain we all experience sung in voices as vulnerable and honest as their lyrics....more
