In 2015, a few short weeks before Ash & Eric’s first wedding anniversary, Eric almost drowned. On a camping trip with friends, he put his feet into a river which appeared calm, but was hiding a powerful current beneath. He was pulled in and trapped under an endless washing machine and, after fighting for what felt like forever, he surrendered & said a prayer, knowing only a miracle could save him. Unbeknownst to Eric, his best friend had been fighting above the surface attempting to reach for him without getting pulled in himself. Suddenly, Eric was dragged to shore. “Do Something” was written by Eric after waking up with severe anxiety on tour in 2018. He awoke with vivid memories of the near-drowning and wrote this song. “Do Something” later evolved as we wrote the album “Sure”. It is still a story of near-death. Whether we’re stuck in a river or a toxic relationship, fighting for our lives and praying for a miracle, sometimes the only way to be truly saved is to surrender and stop fighting.
lyrics
Suspended, above me unreachable light
I’ve kicked and clawed like a junkyard dog
But I’m the loser in this fight
Below me, the door to the endless night
A blackness seen in a cold sweat dream
But there’s no waking from this fright
I have given it all I got
Holding tight to my last thread
If you don’t do something now
This’ll be the end
I had dreamed of so much more
Seen it flash before my eyes
If you don’t do something now
This’ll be goodbye
Did you hear me?
I’m screaming in my head
I’ve maybe moments left
And I’m going down
I said, did you hear me?
My heart is ripping through my chest
This can’t be my last breath
Oh am I going down?
I have given it all I got
Losing grip on my last thread
If you don’t do something now
This’ll be the end
I had dreamed of so much more
Seen it flash before my eyes
If you don’t do something now
This’ll be goodbye
Is this goodbye?
Is this goodbye?
Oh my god
Oh my god
I’m hanging on by a thread
And I’m broken from trying to bend
I see how this one will end
As all your defenses crumble again
I didn’t wanna walk away
But you’d rather fight than face up to the pain
I’ll no longer carry the weight
I see through the lie that I was to blame
And you never hear me
And I ain’t got nothing left
I’ve given you my last breath
So if you want to go down
Well, I’m not going down
Ash & Eric have never shied away from life’s hard edges. Hailing from the gritty heart of the Industrial Revolution --
Worcester, Massachusetts -- the two find consolation in discovering the beauty of being artists in the most stubbornly independent city in the north east. Their musings reflect the hope and pain we all experience sung in voices as vulnerable and honest as their lyrics....more
Because she’s the best musician I know! I know her dad, who in my opinion was the best musician I knew until Abbie came along. If you know music she’s by far the most wonderful musician around. You need to hear her music.you will not be disappointed. uncleguy
The Icelandic songwriter packs her stunning debut with sweeping melodies delivered via intimate, folky arrangements. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 12, 2023
I like the way Tracy tells a story with her songs. Some of these were from a project called Real Women, Real Songs on YouTube. I like how they sound with additional instrumentation and voices. kdughi
